Linear motion is constant while Sine changes speed so in the first image where we are testing the difference, when its switched to linear mode, the face is a constant movement back and forth. When you switch the mode to sine, the face is a lot smoother, slowing down when its going to go back in the direction it came from. This leads to a much smoother transition than the glitchy constant linear motion.
