Game mechanic = "Countdown" Time Limits.
-Adding Time Bonus
-Freezing Time
-Adding score because of finishing levels earlier than time set.
Some game features I have found and researched that relate back to time limits are adding bonuses to add more time to the already set time limit. This example can be found in multiple racing games such as DIRT, Need for speed(s) and many more. I found this bonus when I was playing a racing game BLUR. Blur is a good racing game and is similar to the features and mechanics of Mario cart on Nintendo 64. In BLUR you get power ups every so often in a time trail course. There are clock icons to represent a time bonus and if you go through one with your car you add on 5 seconds to the time limit that is constantly counting down.
But time limits aren't just in racing games, another example is in the super Mario bro's series. In the many of Mario's games you can have a time limit, but a good extra feature to have is the fact if you finish a level early, lets say 10 seconds early for arguments sake, your total score at the end will have an added bonus from that 10 seconds early finish. This is also a good feature because when you finish a level early you kind of have that satisfaction of finishing a level as fast as you can but then you wonder where is my reward? And now this feature enables you to get a bonus when you finish levels early. THERES YOUR SATISFACTION!
Freezing time can be found in multiple games especially racing because there is such an advantage when it happens. BLUR is another example of this feature, again it has a icon to freeze time within a time trail to make those extra seconds count. Also another example is Crash Team Racing, their are icons that are called "time creates" and they can be activated when someone drives through one and then that enables the feature of freezing time.
